Oh my glob, these books are amazing. Never before did I think I'd adore a book on its views of people, politics, and love with a cover like that. Proves to not judge a book on it's cover.
The Selection Series is by Kiera Cass, and I know it is kind of late to start on the series, but I heard that it was good, I started reading it, and it is pretty good. So, let's get started withe the review.
So, this book is basically about America(a girl named America, you'll find out when you read it) who is enlisted into the Selection, it is almost like a competition for Prince Maxon's hand in marriage. 35 girls are entered, but only one would win.
The idea is very good, and it is not like the evil lovey puppy books that throw it in your face, but it takes time, trying to make you think. The first book sets up this world, and the world that America lives in. It sets up the characters in a good way.
But, in the Elite, the second book, (curse word) gets real. Politics, royalty, and loyalty are kind of put into the test. We get exposed to a rebellion going on within the land. And, then we have to put up with suspense.
The One, is basically a finale that fits well, and there is two sequel books to the series, I need to read those next. Now, onto the characters!
America is an exceptional main character. At some points she is the one we'd root for, but at times she just makes me sorry for the prince. She just is all over the place. I believe America has a will force, and is easy to relate to, but sometimes I want to strangle this girl and say "MAKE UP YOUR MIND, PLEASE!!!"
The other contestants are rather good, and I started rooting for one girl in the Elite to get the crown, but then something happens that makes me cry inside. You know that preppy girl trope in books, especially in contests, well they clear that up with two characters and that made me really happy in the inside.
Next is Prince Maxon, who I consider the secondary main character. This guy, is my favorite prince. The other princes in media and in books don't get that much character arcs, so this is a great change.
To put it simply, he is awesome.
I can't really talk about the other characters, because then that would spoil the book. So, that is my review on the Selection Series, I hope you enjoy this review, and that you think about reading it.
